Research Associate Position in Sustainable Chemical Manufacturing at the Department of Chemical Engineering in University College London, UK 2012

Study Subject(s):Sustainable Chemical Manufacturing
Course Level:Research
Scholarship Provider: TSB
Scholarship can be taken at: UK

Eligibility:
There is an opportunity for a chemical engineer with a PhD in the area of chemical reaction engineering to join the project at UCL. Applicants must have knowledge and experience in some of the following areas: reaction engineering, multiphase reactors, microreaction technology, multiphase flow.

Scholarship Open for International Students: No

Scholarship Description: A TSB funded project, led by GSK and in collaboration with UCL (Prof Asterios Gavriilidis, Chemical Engineering); Imperial College (Prof Serafim Kalliadasis) and HEL, an equipment manufacturing company, seeks to develop a continuous gas/liquid reaction platform able to produce pharmaceutical materials on the manufacturing-scale. The aim is a cost-effective and green process, delivering cost/environmental benefits and enabling novel manufacturing routes. The work will focus on the design, commissioning and performance evaluation of gas/liquid and gas/liquid /solid intensified reactors, with particular focus on the scale-up of these reactors and associate equipment. The researcher will be expected to study experimentally both applied and fundamental aspects of hydrodynamics, mass/heat transfer and reaction characteristics, in order to aid reactor design. The UCL researcher will work closely with a researcher at IC and staff at GSK and HEL to ultimately develop a large-scale manufacturing platform. The design will be performed according to industrial safety standards.
